First Photographically Illustrated Edition of a translation first issued in 1845. This pretty and appealing production was imported in sheets from England and beautified with an expensive binding and the original photographs presumably for the tourist market. Gernsheim gives the date of publication as 1872 but does not identify the photographer. He also calls for 43 prints but each of the copies of which we have found records has a different complement only one had as many as 43. Uncommon.
8vo. Original full vellum by Casciani of Rome, decoration and titles to boards and spine gilt extra, all edges stained green, floral patterned endpapers. With 39 albumen prints mounted on inserted leaves. Early gift inscription to half title leaf, some minor cockling to mounts, gilt very slightly rubbed at the tips but a splendid copy.
