Bound from the original monthly parts, with stabholes visible, in original olive green fine-diaper cloth, covers blocked in blind to a variant pattern not described by Smith, spine with elaborate design in blind with two panels, lettered in gold DOMBEY / AND SON and C. DICKENS respectively, and with LONDON. in gold at foot, pale yellow endpapers. 40 inserted plates, including frontispiece and vignette title. Contemporary gift inscription on half-title. Spine faintly sunned, two short splits in cloth on rear joint, inner hinges just cracked but holding firm, some foxing to plates as usual, an excellent copy in the unrestored original binding.
