Second Scott Edition. First published in 1814, Scott's text was based primarily upon the John Nichols edition of 1808, but with the addition of Scott's extensive discursive annotations and 122 items of new material; among the new entries being 83 letters, 22 poems and 17 prose pieces. In this second edition, Scott adds two further paragraphs to his 1814 Advertisement, two new letters, supplementary verses to three poems previously printed, and four prose pieces; as well as enlarging his own commentary.

Contemporary full crimson calf, titles and elaborate tooling to spines gilt, three morocco title labels green and brown, raised bands, twin rule to boards with cornerpieces gilt, inner dentelles gilt, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. Engraved frontispiece of the author to volume 1. Light offsetting to title page on volume 1, occasional light foxing, a few labels chipped, an attractive and decorative set in very good condition.
