A classic work of American ornithology. Wilson's catalogue was first published in 9 vols., 1808–14, with additions by Bonaparte in 4 vols., 1825–33. This is one of a number of later re-issues: with its green morocco gilt spines, it is probably the most decorative on the shelf.
3 volumes, 8vo. Publisher’s green quarter morocco, spines gilt lettered and with large gilt eagle, red cloth boards, brown endpapers, top edges gilt. Woodcut portrait frontispiece, 103 chromolithograph plates of American birds by Wilson, Titian R. Peale and A. Rider. Early ownership inscriptions on half-titles. Spines a little rubbed in places, the contents clean and fresh, the colour plates bright, an excellent set.
