First Edition. Uncommon, three copies only on COPAC, BL, NLS, and Oxford, no copies on OCLC. Rather obscure tactical treatise based on the skirmishing techniques of the Parthians. Written at the height of the “War Scare”, when the French were expected on British shores in moments, & the Rifle Volunteer movement had sprung up in response. This copy with the pencilled ownership inscription of Hastings Russell, 9th Duke of Bedford.

8vo. Original printed glazed paper boards. Folding frontispiece. Light browning, boards a little rubbed, spine chipped with about 30mm of loss at the head, remains attractive.
