First Edition, First Impression, First Issue dustjacket. A mighty comic novel of Fleet Street. The jacket design with its trompe l’œil upper panel reproducing the torn front page of a newspaper was a clear pastiche of the Daily Express masthead. Beaverbrook threatened to sue and the jacket was reprinted with the offending text removed.

8vo. Original red and black snakeskin patterned cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the pictorial dustjacket. Some general toning to text, end leaves partially browned, but an excellent copy in the slightly chipped first issue dustjacket severely faded at the spine.
