First UK Edition, First Impression of Faulkner’s first published novel. The American edition was issued in 1926 and is a famously difficult and expensive book to obtain in the dust jacket. The present London edition is the first to print the important preface by Richard Hughes, author of A High Wind in Jamaica (1929; published in the USA as The Innocent Voyage), which did much in itself to introduce this great Southern author to the English public. Not at all common in this condition.
Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt, top edge stained green. With the dust jacket. A superb copy in the very lightly tanned dust jacket with some tiny loss at one corner and a few trivial marks.
